August 2023 – ongoing
We are partners on a research study titled “Developing a Competency Framework for Dementia Care.” This study includes other partners from Ontario Tech University, Provincial Geriatrics Leadership Ontario, Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Toronto, and Western University to support the development of a framework to support dementia care in Ontario. The study is on understanding the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and judgment that health care workers providing services to people with dementia should possess. The study involves three focus group sessions, which will take place over a period of six months. Recruitment from McCormick Dementia Services is ongoing for people living with dementia and care partners with lived experience. Virtual and in-person focus groups have been scheduled for September 6th and 20th at the Adult Day Program.
The research team on the dementia competency framework study has been invited to present a poster at the 52nd Annual Scientific and Educational Meetings of the Canadian Association of Gerontology (CAG) following the acceptance of an abstract submission. The presentation is on October 27, 2023, at Hilton Toronto. Kelly Kay, a Co-Principal Investigator, will be presenting the poster.
