COVID-19 Update April 1 2020

McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update

Wednesday, April 1, 2020

This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Wednesday, April 1, 2020.  We will continue to provide these updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday as needed.

There are no probable or suspected cases of COVID-19 among our residents or staff at this time.

As a follow-up to yesterday’s communication, the screening of residents twice a day includes looking for signs and symptoms of respiratory infection, including cough, runny nose, congestion and/or fever.  We are conducting these screenings in the dining rooms at breakfast and again at dinner.

In addition to the screening requirement for our residents, the Ministry of Long-Term Care yesterday issued an emergency order that requires that all staff be screened, including temperature-taking, at least twice daily.  On March 16, McCormick Home began enacting these measures for everyone entering our building at all times, and in compliance with this latest order from the ministry, we will ensure that all staff and care providers are now screened when both entering and exiting the building.

We are in constant communication with the Ontario Long-Term Care Association and the Ministry of Long-Term Care to make sure we are up-to-date on all infection-prevention protocols.

Our supply of personal protective equipment continues to be well-stocked, and we are following the ministry’s directive of reporting on the status of these supplies daily.

The Premier of Ontario announced this week the extension of our current state of emergency for another two weeks.  We continue to monitor our residents closely for any challenges associated with self-isolation and are committed to providing a positive, upbeat and healthy environment to maintain their emotional well-being.

We look forward to sharing with you additional photos of our residents on our Facebook page tomorrow.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
