COVID-19 Update Aug 31 2020

McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update

Monday, August 31, 2020

This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Monday, August 31, 2020.  We will continue to provide these updates twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays, or as needed.

There are no probable or suspected cases of COVID-19 among our residents or staff at this time.

As a follow up to the communication sent on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at the end of the day on Friday, we received notification from the Ministry of Long-Term Care that effective immediately, residents can spend time away from the home for day trips or overnight absences. Please refer to Saturday’s update for further information.

Public health measures are critical during these absences to ensure the ongoing safety of all residents and staff of McCormick Home. Residents who are out of the home on a short stay absence must wear a medical mask, provided by the home, for the duration of the absence, if tolerated.  We would also remind families of the importance of frequent hand hygiene, physical distancing and maintaining social bubbles, i.e., limiting the number of people the resident is exposed to while away from the home.

If you plan to take your loved one out, please notify the charge nurse in advance so the resident will be ready to go and the staff have time to prepare and remind the resident of public health measures.

We know many of you have been waiting a long time to be able to take your loved one for a drive, or home for a visit.  The day has come, but we ask for your diligence while your loved one is away from the home as the threat of COVID-19 remains in our communities.

We are anticipating additional updates this week and will provide more information as it becomes available.

Thank you,
