COVID-19 Update December 15 2021

McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update

Wednesday, December 15, 2021

This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Wednesday, December 15, 2021.

Several new updates were released by the Ministry of Long-Term Care and the Middlesex-London Health Unit yesterday.  As communicated at the family meeting last evening, we are still working through the documents to summarize the changes, and seeking clarification on some of the questions that were raised.

I will be sending out additional updates later today, but wanted to highlight a few critical changes first thing this morning:

  • All individuals entering McCormick Home will be required to be rapid tested daily due to the rising Omicron variant of concern in our local community and provincially. We will re-evaluate this requirement in mid-January.
  • The Ministry of Long-Term Care is requiring caregivers to be fully vaccinated, unless they have a valid medical exemption or are attending to a resident in a palliative, end-of-life situation. Caregivers will be required to have a first dose by December 20, 2021, and all required subsequent doses, in order to be considered fully vaccinated by February 21, 2022. In the interim, designated caregivers who are not fully vaccinated must restrict their visit to the resident’s room only.
  • Residents can designate a maximum of two caregivers (unless more than two caregivers were already designated prior to December 14, 2021).
  • Indoor visits are limited to two people per resident at a time.

Stay tuned for additional updates later today.
