COVID-19 Update December 31 2020

McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update

Thursday December 31, 2020

This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Thursday, December 31, 2020.

There are no probable or suspected cases of COVID-19 among our residents or staff at this time.

I have received some inquiries from essential caregivers of residents within the home about whether caregivers will get access to the COVID-19 vaccine.  I spoke with Dr. Summers last evening, and Dr. Summers has indicated that essential caregivers will follow vaccination of long-term care home staff.   As soon as caregivers are eligible to receive the vaccination communication will be sent out.

When the province announced “Gray Lockdown” for 28 days, I had also reached out to Dr. Summers to clarify if the hair salon can remain operational during the lockdown, as community hair salons must be closed.  This direction remains unclear at this time, so until further clarification is received from the Ministry of Long Term Care, the salon will remain closed.

In the collective approach to stopping the spread of COVID-19, we ask that our essential caregivers consider carefully their decision to visit their loved one at this time.  Community transmission of COVID-19 is at an all-time high and we ask you to consider limiting visits to the home to reduce possible exposure points to the residents.

As 2020 comes to a close, I would like to again express my appreciation for all of your support, words of encouragement and understanding since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.

Wishing you a Happy New Year and all the best in 2021!
