COVID-19 Update January 6 2021

McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update

Wednesday January 6, 2021

This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

There are no probable or suspected cases of COVID-19 among our residents or staff at this time.

We just received an update from the Middlesex London Public Health Unit, which takes its direction from the Ministry of Health, that we could receive either the Moderna or the Pfizer vaccine for residents within our home.  If you are providing your consent on behalf of your family member, please be aware that you will be consenting to them receiving either the Moderna or the Pfizer vaccine.

This change in direction is a result of recent concerns related to availability of vaccines. The vaccine that will be administered to any specific individual will now be determined based on which vaccine is available at that time. At this point, Dr. Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health, has indicated that choice of vaccines will not be available.

Vaccinations are voluntary, but strongly encouraged, by the health unitWhile we do not have a confirmed date for our residents to receive the first round of vaccination, we have been asked to start requesting consents from residents or their substitute decision makers so that vaccines can be administered as quickly as possible once they arrive at our home.

Vaccinations to caregivers are not anticipated to be available in our geographic area for some time.  The health unit has determined that the priority is to vaccinate health care workers and residents of long-term care and retirement homes first.  Once we receive notification that caregivers are eligible for vaccinations, we will advise you immediately.

We thank you for your assistance in helping to fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Have a wonderful day,
