COVID-19 Update May 5 2021

McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update

Wednesday May 5, 2021

This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

This is an urgent update for family members following amendments to Directive #3 by the Ministry of Long-Term Care on May 4, 2021.

Effective May 4, 2021, as per this directive, all staff and caregivers are required to wear appropriate eye protection (e.g., protective glasses, goggles or face shield) when unable to maintain two metres of physical distancing, such as when they are providing direct care or interacting with residents in an indoor area.

As a result of this change, all essential caregivers entering the home must wear eye protection during their visit.  Face shields will be provided on the table to the left of the screening station for your use.  Alternatively, there are safety eye glasses that you can use also if you prefer.  We ask that if you choose to use the glasses, please keep them and bring them with you to your next visit, as they can be disinfected and reused.

One additional change is the removal of the requirement to undergo a screening process when leaving the home.  With that said, if you start to feel unwell during your visit, please notify the screener. In this circumstance, it is still not required that you be screened upon exiting the home.

A Family Zoom meeting with the Administrator will be held on Thursday, May 6 at 12:30 p.m. to discuss these changes and other updates, as well as to answer any questions you may have.  If you are unable to attend, minutes of the key changes discussed will be circulated. A separate e-mail will follow with the details for the Zoom meeting.

Thank you to all of you for your continued patience and diligence as we strive in our collective goal to keep our residents and each other safe.

Tanya Pol,
Administrator
