McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update
Thursday, October 7, 2021
This is a McCormick Home update for Thursday, October 7, 2021.
I am pleased to report that on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, the Minister of Long-Term Care announced that the Ontario government will be providing additional funding starting on November 1, 2021, to increase staffing levels in long-term care.
The funding announced today is intended to increase the provincial average of 2.75 hours of direct care per resident per day to three hours of direct care per resident per day. Funding was also increased for care provided by allied health professionals.
This funding is the first installment of a multi-year commitment to increase direct hours of care to four hours per resident per day in long-term care by 2024-2025.
In anticipation of this announcement, meetings were held with the staff yesterday to share our plans for increasing our complement of PSWs. I am excited to announce that, with this funding, each home area will be able to have four PSWs on days and evenings and two PSWs per home area on nights. We expect these changes to enhance care by enabling consistency of staffing and continuity of care. McCormick Home is planning to begin implementing these changes on October 29, 2021.
Wishing you a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving weekend!
