McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update
Friday, October 9, 2020
This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Friday, October 9, 2020. We will continue to provide these updates twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays, or as needed. Please note: Monday’s update will be deferred until Tuesday due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
There are no probable or suspected cases of COVID-19 among our residents or staff at this time.
With 939 new COVID-19 cases in the province of Ontario today and with the Thanksgiving weekend upon us, we have an important message for all visitors of McCormick Home. We have just received updated recommendations from Dr. Alex Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex-London Health Unit, that the following steps be taken by long-term care and retirement homes:
- All general or non-essential visits will cease. As a result of this direction, outdoor and indoor visits will be suspended until further notice, effective end of day, Friday, October 9, 2020.
- Essential visitors can continue to visit under established conditions. As a reminder, essential visitors are persons performing essential support services (e.g., food delivery, inspections, maintenance), health care services (e.g., phlebotomy), or persons visiting very ill or palliative residents. A caregiver is a type of essential visitor who has been designated as such and who provides direct care to the resident. A maximum of two caregivers may be designated per resident at a time. If you have been approved as a caregiver, you may continue to visit your loved one if you successfully complete the active screening process.
- All resident short-stay absences, unless for medical reasons, will remain suspended at McCormick Home until further notice.
Thank you for your understanding as we continue our efforts to keep McCormick Home a safe place for everyone.
