COVID-19 Update September 25 2020

McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update

Friday, September 25, 2020

This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Friday, September 25, 2020.  We will continue to provide these updates twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays, or as needed.

There are no probable or suspected cases of COVID-19 among our residents or staff at this time.

I have just received communication from Dr. Alex Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Middlesex London Health unit, arising from the increasing numbers of new COVID-19 cases in Ontario.  Public health units, are expecting an update to the Ministry of Long Term Care’s Directive #3 soon. While we await the update to the directive, the Middlesex London Health Unit has made some interim recommendations for long-term care homes:

  • All in-person group events within long term care homes should be postponed or cancelled for the next 4 weeks
  • All short-stay absences from long term care homes should be postponed or cancelled immediately. The London Health unit is recommending families participate in on-site visits, rather than having residents leave the home.
  • Staff and family members are reminded to limit their social circles to 10 or fewer people.

At McCormick Home, we look to our public health officials for guidance and direction.  There are currently three long term care homes in London-Middlesex that have COVID-19 outbreaks.  As a result, in our ongoing effort to keep McCormick Home safe, we are now temporarily suspending resident absences over the weekend.  We will provide a further update on Monday.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
