McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update
Thursday, September 3, 2020
This is a McCormick Care Group – COVID-19 Update for Thursday, September 3, 2020. We will continue to provide these updates twice weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays, or as needed.
There are no probable or suspected cases of COVID-19 among our residents or staff at this time.
Since the Ministry of Long-Term Care announced that residents can go out of the home for short absences, many families have reached out with some anxiety and apprehension as re-openings occur. The common goal for us all is to keep COVID-19 out of the home. We have instructed families wanting to take their family members out that they have to follow public health measures for the duration of the outing. Residents must wear a surgical mask, practice proper hand hygiene and social distance as much as possible. When the resident returns from an outing, they will be subject to active screening. In addition, routine monitoring for signs and symptoms, including taking temperatures, continues twice daily for every resident. Any resident who does not pass the active screening process is placed in isolation, and a COVID-19 swab is obtained.
If you plan to take your loved one out, please notify the charge nurse in advance so the resident will be ready to go and the staff have time to prepare and remind the resident of public health measures. We continue to ask for your diligence while your loved one is away from the home as the threat of COVID-19 remains in our communities.
An updated visitor policy was released late Wednesday, September 2, 2020, that will take effect September 9, 2020. We are currently reviewing all the changes and will host a family Zoom meeting early next week.
As a reminder, the update for Monday will be delayed until Tuesday, September 8, 2020, due to the Labour Day holiday.
Wishing you a safe and enjoyable long weekend,
